Professional epoxy flooring construction company always understand the importance of preparing the substrate carefully before applying the epoxy coating. Epoxy flooring can be peel off quickly in just a few weeks or several months mostly because of the substrate preparation process -the substrate is not proper prepared before applying the epoxy coating. The question arise is which method is suitable most, which surface is suitable most, here are some popular methods to prepare the floor.

Sanding

This method mostly used in repainting the surface on the existing epoxy coating. This method using sanding paper, angle grinder, light scrubber to sanding the needed areas. The purpose is to rughten the surface to applying the new epoxy coating while the old coating is losen the original glossy. This is suitable for the light traffic areas
Grinding

This is the most popular method to prepare the substrate. Suitable for almost any kind of substrate from old cemnt, tile, stone, flatter even surfaces. Grinding – specifically diamond grinding leaves a rougher surface that is deeper than sanding, thereby helping the primer layer to adhere better, enhance the durability of the floor. It is work well in broadcasting, medium traffic area.

Shot blasting

Consider as the most effective way to prepare the substrate for epoxy applying , due to the fact that it is appropriate for any kind of substrate, since this technique should be done by skilled workers in order to receive the precise result. The purpose of this approach is the possible to remove damage, contaminations, roughten the surface – which create a perfectly sound surface to best adhesion between epoxy coatings. This method is suitable for narrow or wide areas, with self-leveling coating, with medium to high traffic.

Scarifying

This is also an effective way to prepared the substrate, however it is not recommended in floor systems with thin coating. It is suitable fr old-new substrate, weak surface, needed to remove contaminations, or old damage coating. It will remove some milimet of old coating and create a new cleaner, that meet the required adhesion. Scarifying is suitable for cement, concrete, heavily damage floor. Especially when applying a thick epoxy coating, and high traffic areas.
There are several reasons that can impact the quality of the epoxy flooting, however, the preparing process is neccessary to have a standards epoxy flooring systems. Therefore it is important to understand the substrate of the factory before applying any approach.
